Symptoms of a Head Injury

Because it is not necessary for an individual to suffer loss of consciousness or even strike their head on an object in a car accident to suffer a closed head injury, it is imperative to understand and recognize the common symptoms associated with a head injury.

An injury to the brain may or may not be readily apparent, but there are specific symptoms that can be watched for. Common indicators of a traumatic head injury include: increased headaches, episodes of very sharp pain in the head, decreased memory and ability to recall, increased fatigue that is even more apparent in emotional situations, increased irritability and mood swings, disrupted sleep patterns, nausea or vomiting, slurred speech, unequal pupil size or dilated pupils, dizziness and sensory problems such as ringing in the ears or blurred vision.
